Dark Heart Press and Page Against the Machine (2714 E 4th St, Long Beach, CA) are proud to host the release of the novella, "Snake Oil" by Daniel W. Wright. Dan will be joining us for a reading of his novella as well as his poetry. Joining him will be local poets Kevin Ridgeway, Wendy Rainey, and Curtis Hayes. No cover.

Daniel W. Wright is a poet, editor, and fiction writer. Wright most recently released his debut novel, Call Center (Back of the Class Press) and the poetry split, Tonight’s Main Event (Liquid Lunch Press, with Gabriel Ricard). He is the author of numerous collections of poetry and two works of prose. His work has appeared in numerous print and online journals. Wright currently resides in St. Louis, MO, where you can usually find him in a bar or a bookstore.

Kevin Ridgeway is the author of several collections of poetry. Kevin’s latest books are Invasion of the Shadow People (Luchador Press) and A Ludicrous Split 2 (with Gabriel Ricard, Back of the Class Press). His work has appeared or is forthcoming in New York Quarterly, Paterson Literary Review, Slipstream, Chiron Review, Nerve Cowboy, Main Street Rag, Heavy Feather Review, Sho Poetry Journal, Trailer Park Quarterly, and Beat Not Beat: California Poets Screwing on the Beat Tradition (Moon Tide Press), among others. He lives and writes in Long Beach, CA.

Wendy Rainey is author of Hollywood Church: Short Stories and Poems and Girl on the Highway. She is a contributing poetry editor on Chiron Review. Her poetry has appeared in Nerve Cowboy, Trailer Park Quarterly, Misfit Magazine and beyond. She is a 2022 recipient of the Annie Menebroker Poetry Award and a runner-up in the 2022 Angela Consolo Mankiewicz Poetry Prize. She studied poetry with Jack Grapes in Los Angeles and creative writing with Gerald Locklin at California State University, Long Beach.

Curtis Hayes has worked in sawmills, greasy spoons, and as a grip, gaffer, and set builder in film production. He’s been a truck driver, a boat rigger, a print journalist and a screenwriter. He is a graduate of the California State University, Long Beach, Creative Writing Program and his poetry has been featured in Chiron Review, Trailer Park Quarterly, Cultural Weekly and other small presses.
